Stockholm Kaolin - October 2024

Sometimes life can feel full of tangled threads and scary unknown creatures that are out to get us. For this exhibition I created 3 new works that celebrate DIY techniques and the joy of haphazardness; a reminder to see the brightness along the way even when we don't know where we're going. By looking at the world with a childlike sense of play, it can help us to navigate through the murky depths together.

2. 'Just jump!' paper cut stop motion animation. (2022-3)

3. 'Tentacles' expanding foam, chicken wire, plasticine, spray paint. (2024)

Exhibition text

Alexandra Johansson, Beatrice Alvestad Lopez, Lizzie Abbot and Matilda Envall exhibit under name Supportive Structure with the exhibition "Watery poetics"

The group was formed during the last year of the MFA program CRAFT! at Konstfack, with the aim of supporting each other while working to establish careers as professional artists. The members' practices range from ceramics to textiles, stop motion film and performance.

In this group exhibition we will explore watery poetics through craft and materiality. Ceramic objects become watery vessels, wool knitted narratives unfold into ancient gods transforming into swans. A costume made of shells is on display as well as in the filmatic work of sea shell lore.

Immersed in the gentle sounds of the ocean the visitor will be invited to experience the exhibition as a space for reflection. This exhibition weaves together objects that amplify each other, and the overall theme of watery poetics through craft.
